Churches – Monasteries

The geographical position, the isolation from the rest of mainland Greece, the nature and the history of Vatika contributed for a unique phenomenon that encountered in the region.

Numerous temples, Byzantine, Late Byzantine and others are built all over Vatika. The devotion and loyalty of the people to God resulted in this large number of temples and hermitages. Besides the name “Small Holy Mountain” was not given accidentally in the region. Important monuments are the oldest temples with great Byzantine frescoes.
