THE LOCAL ARCHITECTURE

Influenced by people activities

The location of Vatika at the end of mainland Greece with a history of many years was influenced by the natural world and the diversity of the region and developed architectural peculiarities. Strict volumes usually rectangular plans, two storey buildings, hipped roof and gabled sometimes (at ground level buildings, mainly auxiliary use), small windows, southern exposure for protection from the strong winds, outbuildings such as ovens characterize the architecture and configuration of buildings facet. The buildings in the settlements are characterized by simplicity and in the region of Neapolis we can find more decorative elements (frames, cornices, elaborate cornices and balustrades on balconies, etc.) that shape the facets. A key feature is the existence of small balcony.
